Number of missing people rises to 51 in Hiroshima mudslides

HIROSHIMA. KAZINFORM The number of people missing after landslides early Wednesday in Hiroshima has risen to 51, from seven, as search and rescue operations continued Thursday in neighborhoods where 39 people died, police said.

The latest figure for those missing resulted from cross-checking information with firefighters, the police said, adding the number could increase further. About 3,000 police, firefighters and Ground Self-Defense Force personnel were involved in the rescue operations which were suspended Thursday night due to forecast heavy rain in the areas, Kyodo reports.
