Number of cattle at Kazakhstani farms increased by 14.6%

ASTANA. August 30. KAZINFORM Kazakhstan implements the Project of Cattle Meat Export Potential Development for 2011-2020 which is aimed at structural reformation of the livestock industry and stimulation of export of cattle meat. Upon the results of the first half of this year, the number of cattle of the country's agricultural farms increased by 14.6%, according to PM.kz.

"It is necessary to intensify implementation of the project on cattle meat export potential development. I charge the Government to elaborate programs on development of the other sectors of the livestock industry, including sheep farming, fodder production and  distant-pasture cattle tending," the President of the country said in his recent Address to the Nation.

As the Ministry of Agriculture informs, in the first half of 2012, the number of cattle of agricultural farms increased by 14.6%, the number of horses - by 17.2%, camels - by 8.9%, birds - by 6.5%. it allowed to increase meat production by 10.7%, milk production by 13.5%, wool production by 5.5%.

Besides, the number of horses increased by 5%, sheep and goats by 1%, camels by 2.8% and birds by 2.5%.

It is worth noting that over 39 thousand heads of breeding stock and 2205 breeding bulls were procured in January-June within the framework of "Sabyga" program providing for financing of agricultural farms for procurement of breeding stock and breeding bulls.

To date, agricultural farms imported 6204 heads of cattle within the formation of nucleuses. Totally, 12 thousand heads of breeding stock of foreign breeding will be imported, the Ministry informs.

In the context of breeds, the number of imported Angus cattle made 3585 heads, Simmental cattle - 1366 heads, Hereford cattle - 1090 heads, Limousin cattle - 89 heads, Aubrac cattle - 72 heads, Brown Swiss cattle - 2 heads. 41.2% of the cattle was imported from the USA, 17% from Canada, 13.6% from the Czech Republic, 9.1% from Austria, 6.4% from Ireland, 6.3% from Russia, 3.7% from Denmark, 1.3% from Ukraine, 1.2% from France, 0.2% from Australia.

Besides, a network of feed yards for 20 thousand places is established. A network of feed yards for 150 thousand places is planned to be established by 2015. A network of yards for 5.3 thousand places will also be established at the expense of initiators.  

The work on the cattle identification was completed in the first half of this year. Identification of small cattle, horses, camels and pigs is underway. 195 regional veterinary organizations and 2449 veterinary stations in rural areas were established.  

As earlier reported, Kazakhstan implements the project on cattle meat export potential development. The project is a part of the program of agro-industrial complex development of Kazakhstan and includes measures of support and intensification of export of the livestock industry of Kazakhstan.
