Nigerian militants claim 3 Chevron facilities destroyed

KAZINFORM The major militant group in southeast Nigeria, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), has claimed that they destroyed more facilities in Delta State belonging to American oil giant Chevron, whose Otunana flow station caught fire last week, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

MEND in a three-line statement from their official e-mail to news media signed by its spokesman Gbomo Jomo claimed to have destroyed Makaraba oil wells 3 and 5 together with its trunk and gas lifts on Saturday. They also claimed responsibility for the destruction of Otunana well 1 with its trunk and gas lifts the previous day. Nigeria's Joint Task Force spokesman in the Niger Delta, Colonel Rabe Abubakar, in response to an inquiry by local media said there was a loud bang in the facilities the MEND claimed to have destroyed, but could not confirm what happened until experts ascertain the situation, Kazinform cites Xinhua.
