New sports venue to appear in Astana

A new sports venue is to appear on the map of the Kazakh capital, Kazinform News Agency reports.
The new state-of-the-art stadium will replace the old one named after Munaitpassov, which has been home to many sports and cultural events in the past.
Set to be built in the heart of the right bank of Astana, the 4,500-seat indoor arena will have a football pitch with the total area of over 7,100 square meters. It will be rated as UEFA category three stadium.
According to a source at the Astana city mayor’s office, after technical inspection it became clear that instead of heavily renovating the old stadium it will be easier to demolish it and build a new one.
