New migration law to meet all international standards - seminar in Majilis

The seminar participants focused on the Concept of the bill "On migration" presented by Executive Secretary of the Ministry of Labor Tamara Duisenova. She noted that all provisions and norms of the document had been brought into compliance with the world standards, international commitments and national interests of Kazakhstan. All interested state bodies, deputies of the Majilis, experts of the ministries and OSCE were involved in development of the bill.

In accordance with the bill, foreign specialists and seasonal workers will be attracted to work in Kazakhstan under special quotas established by the Government.

The draft law aims at raising investment attractiveness of Kazakhstan; it also provides for differentiation of labor migrants into the following categories: foreign workers, seasonal foreign workers and business-immigrants. The first and the second categories will be attracted under the Governmental quotas.

The seminar was organized by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection together with the Majilis, OSCE Center in Astana, International Organization for Labor, European Commission and International Organization for Migration.
