New Kazakh dictionary presented in Astana

Astana. December 18. KAZINFORM - Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed, the culture and information minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, presented a new one-volume Kazakh dictionary "Kazak sozdigi" at the National academic library today.

This unprecedented work includes 106 thousand words and 48 300 phrases. According to the minister, so far the Turkic-speaking states have had an Uzbek dictionary featuring 80 thousand words and phrases, Kyrgyz dictionary containing 50 thousand words and phrases. A Turkish dictionary, which is believed to be copious, includes 92 292 words and 122 423 phrases.


The foreword, written by the head of state, Nursultan Nazarbayev, reads: "A language is a social phenomenon growing and developing along with its nation. "Kazak sozdigi" is a unique edition confirming that our state language is the richest Turkic language".
At the presentation, the author, Nurgeldy Uali, PhD in philology, shared on peculiarities of the dictionary's structure. Mukhtar Kul-Mukhammed was hopeful of the dictionary's aiding the development of linguistic culture and science and boosting interest in the learning of the state language.
The presentation's guests saw the exhibited dictionaries of the Turkic languages.
