New exhibition hall «The Mound of the Saka Chieftain» at Nazarbayev Center

ASTANA. August 29. KAZINFORM – On the eve of the Constitution Day -August 29, the opening ceremony of a new exhibition hall “The Mound of the Saka Chieftain” took place at the Nazarbayev Center.

Unique exhibits of the hall are the results of archaeological research of the legendary Berel excavation. In a specialized hall at the Nazarbayev Center, with a particular temperature and humidity conditions suitable for preservation of organic artifacts the following findings are presented: men and women in the original sarcophagus, the remains of three horses, reconstruction of the horse harness and separate parts of horse harness – a total of 40 exhibits. Reconstructed image of a collective exposition of horse burials of the leader or representative of the nomadic elite allows our contemporaries to touch the mysterious world of the ancient inhabitants of the Valley of the Kings.

Berel burial ground is located in the Kazakh Altai, 7 km to the south-west of the village of the same name in Katon Karagay district of East Kazakhstan oblast.

Restoration work of the unique and valuable finds belongs to the artist – restorer Krym Altynbekov.

The opening of the new hall of the museum of the Nazarbayev Center was supported by the Executive Office of the President of Kazakhstan and the Margulan Institute of Archeology.

Presentation of the exhibition began with a speech by the Deputy Director of the Nazarbayev Center for scientific and humanitarian work – PhD, laureate of the European Union of Arts – Leyla Mahat. The opening addresses were also made by Zaynolla Samashev, Doctor of Historical sciences, senior researcher at the Margulan Institute of Archeology, the discoverer of the famous burial mounds and Myrzatai Zholdasbekov a well-known Turkologist, Doctor of Philological sciences, Professor.
