New details revealed in corruption cases in sport
In Atyrau a gang led by Head of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism has stolen more than a quarter of billion tenge (KZT).
Earlier it was reported that the Department of Financial Police of Atyrau region opened a criminal case against the chief of the Department of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism of Atyrau oblast akimat Berick Zhankeev and Management Regional volleyball team "Atyrau" on embezzlement of budget funds.
The investigation revealed that the official Zhankeev Berick, director of the regional volleyball team named "Atyrau" Jenisbek Muhanbetzhanov, accountant Svetlana Kharkina and team coach Alexander Zapevalov took the budget means of KZT 253 million allocated for foreign travel-training camps of a volleyball team in 2008 - 2012.
25 May 2013 in respect of Zhankeev and his accomplices has been opened a criminal investigation into the creation and management of an organized criminal group.
At present, director of the volleyball team Muhanbetzhanov, and coach Zapevalov have been arrested. Zhankeev is hiding away from investigators. It is under desicion to declare him wanted.
Another criminal case agaisnt the head of the regional tourism and sports department M.Undaganov, who is accused of embezzling more than KZT 17 million of budgetary funds allocated for travel expenses of hockey club members.
It is known that on April 27 this year, the staff of the Department of Financial Police of West Kazakhstan region arrested him.
Department of Almaty financial police was investigating a criminal case against the director of the women's volleyball club of "Almaty" S.Nurpeisova who stole more than KZT 10 million of budgetary funds allocated for the training camp of the team in 2009-2010.
During the trial Nurpeisova completely recognized her fault, the damage has been compensated in full. She was sentenced to three years of probation.
Also, the financial departnment of the Southern police is investigating a criminal case against the director of a sports club for developing cycling in Almaty V.Osipov, who is being suspected that by forgery he stole more than KZT 1.5 million, which has been allocated for the training camp of 12 athletes and 2 coaches in Cholpon-Ata in Kyrgyzstan.
