New criteria for countries wishing to obtain full membership of OIC and observer status developed

ASTANA. June 30. KAZINFORM /Serik Sabekov/ There have been developed new criteria for countries wishing to obtain full membership of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and observer status. OIC Secretary General Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu has announced it at a closing ceremony of the 38th session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.

"We have a number of such requests. We have applications for full membership from such countries as Congo, Mauritius and Kenya," he noted.
According to Ekmeleddin İhsanoğlu, such countries as South Africa, Sri Lanka, Philippines, Serbia, Nepal, Belarus and Brazil requested observer status.
"Hence the Council of Foreign Ministers approved criteria, we will direct them new criteria and will ask them to re-submit applications based on these criteria," the OIC Secretary General resumed.
