New British PM Cameron pledges to form strong coalition government
"I aim to form a proper and full coalition between the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats. I believe that is the right way to provide this country with the strong, the stable, the good and decent government that I think we need so badly," Cameron said outside 10 Downing Street.
David Cameron and his wife Samantha earlier visited the Buckingham palace to accept the Queens invitation to form a government after former Prime Minister Gordon Brown had announced his resignation.
British parliamentary elections on May 6 resulted in a hung parliament, with no single party winning enough seats to form a government.
The Conservatives are the largest of the three main parties in government with 306 seats out of 650. The Labour Party won 258 and the Liberal Democrats 57. A majority of 326 seats is needed for any one party to form a majority government; Kazinform cites RIA Novosti.
