Nazarbayev supports Ukraine's CIS Chairmanship in 2014
In his speech at the top-level session, the Head of State expressed gratitude to Belarus for the work done during its CIS Chairmanship and its hospitality.
"We have adopted a concept of the CIS further development, plan of actions on its implementation. This is an important step for further work of this organization. We've also made a decision to announce 2014 as the Year of Tourism in the CIS. The CIS governments are to adopt related programs and this would help our citizens communicate more and strengthen relations between the peoples. The interstate program "Cultural Capitals" is of paramount importance in terms of rapprochement of our countries. Almaty will host the events under the CIS Cultural Capitals next year," Nazarbayev noted.
The Kazakh President also declared his support to the decision of the Council to announce 2015 the Year of veterans of the Great Patriotic War and to establish the 70th jubilee awards.
"Together we will pay the tribute to older generation that protected our independence and freedom during the years of the Great Patriotic War," the Kazakh leader added.
President Nazarbayev also backed the idea that Ukraine should assume the CIS Chairmanship in 2014.
