Nazarbayev proposes to announce August 1 Day of OSCE

"We call on the OSCE member countries to support Kazakhstan's initiative on convocation of the top-meeting in 2010. The meeting of the OSCE leaders will give an opportunity to mark the 35^th anniversary of the Helsinki Final Act, the 20^th anniversary of the Paris Charter and the 65^th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War", the President said.

"Topical issues of security in the area of the OSCE responsibility, the Afghan situation and tolerance could be included in the agenda of the upcoming summit", N. Nazarbayev noted.

"Today the leaders of the OSCE countries must show political will and respond to quite uneasy challenges before their nations. The summit will give a new impulse to adaptation of the OSCE to modern challenges and threats as well as it will raise trust and respect of our nations to the Organization itself", Nazarbayev said having highlighted there is no alternative to the OSCE today.
