Nazarbayev advises Russia to contract with China trans-border use of Irtysh river

ORENBURG. September 11. KAZINFORM /Aigul Tulekbayeva/ President Nursultan Nazarbayev suggested his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev that Russia should enter into an official agreement with the People's Republic of China on trans-border use of Irtysh river.
The issue of preservation and use of Irtysh, Tobol and Ural trans-border rivers was touched upon at the Forum of Kazakhstan-Russian Inter-regional Cooperation. "As for the Irtysh River we have already said this problem should be solved together with the Chinese side", Nazarbayev said addressing Medvedev. On the other hand, the Kazakh Leader noted there had been held negotiations with President Hu Jintao and China Government. The Chinese side assured they would not damage either Kazakhstan or Russia, he added.
"An official agreement on this problem should be adopted", Nazarbayev said.
