NATO's new secretary general starts work

BRUSSELS. August 3. KAZINFORM. Anders Fog Rasmussen, who was inaugurated as NATO's new secretary general on Saturday, started work on Monday in the alliance's headquarters in Brussels; Kazinform refers to RIA Novosti.
The 56-year-old former Danish prime minister has replaced Dutchman Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, who spent five years in office.
The 12th secretary general is to hold his first news conference later in the day, and will put forward his vision for the 28-member alliance at a NATO Council meeting on Tuesday.
In an interview with a number of global media, Rasmussen identified developments in Afghanistan and the need to improve relations with Russia as his top priorities; Kazinform cites RIA Novosti. See www.en.rian.ru for full version.
