National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Centre to perform first heart transplantation in Kazakhstan

ASTANA. January 26. KAZINFORM /Damir Baimanov/ Recently, at the sitting of the board the Kazakh Ministry of Healthcare informed that the first heart transplant in Kazakhstan would be performed this year. Vice Minister Erik Baizhunussov said: "Earlier, Kazakhstanis needing heart transplant had to go abroad, henceforth they will be able to undergo the operation here".

The National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Centre was chosen for performance of the heart transplantation.

According to director of the Centre, a whole team of specialists is getting ready for the operation and is going to go abroad for training.

The specialists of the Centre are studying currently the number of people needing heart transplant in Kazakhstan. The operation will be free of charge, since they will be financed from the budget.

The National Scientific Cardiac Surgery Centre enters the structure of the Nazarbayev University. The Centre plans to provide complex medical care (diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation) to the patients with the diseases of the cardiovascular system. The facility is to be put into service in spring 2011.
