Myanmar says it has stopped all nuclear development

SINGAPORE.. June 3. KAZINFORM Myanmar Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Hla Min acknowledged Saturday that his country previously had civilian nuclear ambitions but declared that since the inauguration in March last year of the new administration of reformist President Thein Sein, all such nuclear development activities have been stopped.
Hla Min made the disclosure in a speech at a top-level Asian security conference held in Singapore known as the Shangri-La Dialogue Asian Security Summit, organized by the London-based International Institute of Strategic Studies, Kyodo reports.
It is believed to be the first time for a senior Myanmar official to acknowledge on a public occasion the country's previous nuclear ambitions.
