It was produced by well-known Russian directors Yegor Konchalovsky and Alexey Golubev. "Astana is the new symbol of Kazakhstan that unites this multi-national country. I have special feelings for this country [Konchalovsky's mother is famous Kazakh actress Natalia Arinbasarova]," Konchalovsky said. According to the Russian director, the idea behind the project belongs to then mayor of Astana city and his close friend Imangali Tasmagambetov. "We wanted to do something special to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's Independence. When he saw Moscow, I Love You film, we decided to do the anthology about Astana," he added.
