Moscow, Astana to step up cooperating in fighting intl terrorism

MOSCOW. January 28. KAZINFORM Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Kazakhstan's State Secretary, Foreign Minister Kanat Saudabayev met to discuss issues of international and regional security within the context of the Afghan settlement. The ministers met on the sidelines of the international conference on Afghanistan in London, Russian diplomats said on Thursday.

"The ministers confirmed the mood to step up cooperation within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEc) and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). They considered, from common positions, the building up of joint efforts in fighting international terrorism and religious extremism, and the provision of security and stability in the Central Asia region," the diplomats said.

Lavrov and Saudabayev paid special attention to "the OSCE theme in connection with the beginning of Kazakhstan's chairmanship at this organization."
