Monument to Kazakh artist Abylkhan Kasteyev unveiled in Zhetysu region
A monument to Abylkhan Kasteyev, an outstanding Kazakh artist, one of the founders of Kazakh fine art, has been unveiled today in Taldykorgan, the administrative center of Zhetysu region, Kazinform News Agency learned from the local akimat.

Governor of the region Beibit Issabayev, statesmen Myrzatay Zholdasbekov, Kuanysh Sultanov, people’s writer of Kazakhstan Beksultan Nurzhekeuly, Abylkhan Kasteyev’s daughter Guldariya Kasteyeva, Chairman of the Union of Artists of Kazakhstan Omirzbek Zhubaniyazov, and intellectuals of the region attended the ceremony.

The authors of the monument are sculptors Rinat Abenov and Yerbol Ziyabekov.

Talking to journalists, the artist’s grandson Sauran Kasteyev said he followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and chose an artistic path.
“We grew up admiring my grandfather's paintings from a very young age. I especially liked the picture of mountains that he painted in watercolor. Now I work in the field of painting, graphics, and illustration. We are very happy and proud that the works by our grandfather Abylkhan are highly valued and honored by the people,” he said.

The event continued with a republican conference organized at the Zhansugurov Palace of Culture.The conference also featured a presentation of the books “Abylkhan Kasteyev,” “Omir Mektebi” devoted to the artist’s life and creativity.

Tomorrow, Shezhin village in Panfilov district of Zhetysu region, the artist’s motherland, will host a republican plein-air of around 20 professional painters and artists, from every corner of the country. The event will run until October 10 and will end with an exhibition at the Kasteyev Art Gallery in Zharkent.
Earlier, Kazinform reported that in 2024, Kazakhstan marks the 120th anniversary of Abylkhan Kasteyev.
