Monument for soldiers died at Tajik-Afghan border to be opened in Astana
When opening the monument, participants of the event will place wreaths and flowers, and personnel of the metropolitan Internal troops' garrison will march in review paying tribute to peacekeepers. And in the evening the Eurasian National University will host a concert of the Vocal and dance ensemble of the Internal troops. Ensemble performers will show a specially prepared concert program for students of this educational institution.
In 1993-1999, more than 2000 military servicemen of the Internal troops were serving to protect CIS external boundaries as part of Kazakhstani composite battalion. 7 April, 1995, was a tragic day for warriors of the Internal troops. 19 years ago, there was an uphill battle in Pshihavr mountain gorge in Tajikistan, with superior forces of armed gangs from adjacent area. This uphill battle lasted over 4 hours. It took 17 young lives, many people were wounded. But our soldiers honorably fulfilled their military duty and followed their oath, saving the honor and face of "Kazbat". It's worth noting that Kazakhstani people remember their heroes. Streets and schools are named after them in order to keep the memory of the soldiers. Monuments are opened in military units. In April 2009, the Walk of Memory of 17 heroes of the Internal troops was opened in the park of Fatherland defenders near "Otan-Ana" monument. Now, according to the tradition, young warriors of the metropolitan garrison of the Internal troops swear the oath of citizenship near this Walk. Besides, in acknowledgment of selfless help of Kazakhstani warriors to Tajik people, a monument was constructed in Dushanbe in December 2007.
