Modernization of Energy Charter Process discussed in Astana

KAZINFORM Modernization of the Energy Charter Process, cooperation between Kazakhstan and the Energy Charter as well as possible future initiatives were discussed during the visit of Energy Charter Secretary General Urban Rusnak to Kazakhstan on October 2-3, the organization's secretariat told Kazinform.

In Astana, Urban Rusnak attended the VII KAZENERGY Forum and held meetings with Kazakhstan's top officials.

At a meeting with head of the Kazakh President's Administration Bakhyt Sultanov, Ambassador Urban Rusnak emphasized the importance of Kazakhstan's contribution to the modernization of the Energy Charter Process. Currently, the secretariat is holding informal consultations with the Charter member states in order to identify their views on the key issues of modernization.

Mr. Rusnak also met with Nurbek Achilov, deputy chairman of Organization and Information Department of "Eurasian Economic Club of Scientists" Association to discuss cooperation of the Energy Charter within the framework of the Astana Economic Forum. The sides considered the opportunity of the secretariat's involvement in the preparation for the next forum planned for May 22-24, 2013.

Kazakhstan joined the Energy Charter in 1998.
