Moderate quake strikes Albania

TIRANA. September 7. KAZINFORM An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale rocked Albania Sunday night, causing damage but no casualties, local media reported, Kazinform refers to Xinhua.

The quake struck around midnight. The epicenter was located in the Dibra area, close to the Macedonian border, the Albianian Institute of Seismology said.

    Officials said two houses collapsed in a village at the epicenter, about 100 km northeast of the capital Tirana. There were no reports of injuries.

    The quake was felt strongly in Tirana. The tremor lasted about 30 seconds.

    People were shaken awake from their slumber. Groups of people in twos and threes stood in the nightly coldness, wrapped in sheets and anything they could put their hands on when fleeing, Kazinform cites Xinhua. See www.chinaview.cn for full version.
