Minsk to host meeting of CIS commission on disarmament

MINSK. May 16. KAZINFORM The joint consultative commission on disarmament will gather for a meeting at the CIS Executive Committee in Minsk on 16-17 May. The first item on the agenda will be coordination of joint positions of the CIS member states in key international forums.

The commission will assess the prospects of the negotiations towards a new treaty on conventional arms control in Europe, and further cooperation on the matters of the Security Council Resolution 1540 (2004) which reaffirms that the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons and their means of delivery constitutes a threat to international peace and security.

The meeting will take stock of the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2015 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, and discuss sensitive military space and export control issues.

The meeting participants will address the issues concerning the arms trade treaty, the promotion of the declaration on a nuclear-free world and the updating of the Vienna document on confidence-and security-building measures., Kazinform refers to BelTA.
