Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov reports to President on 2024 harvesting campaign

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received Minister of Agriculture Aidarbek Saparov, Kazinform News Agency reports citing the press service of Akorda.

The Head of State was reported about the results of development of the country’s agricultural sector in 9 months of 2024.

According to the minister, the agrarians have already harvested 98% of croplands, while 25.2 million tons of grain were threshed out.  The agrarians plan to gather a record volume of sugar beet – up 1.2 million tons, and a fair yield of fodder crops.

In line with the President’s tasks, the ministry is currently engaged in financing sowing and harvesting works. The farmers were allocated 580 billion tenge of subsidies at 5% which is three times higher that the last year indicator.

According to the minister, in 2025 this sum will be raised to 900 billion tenge, 200 billion of which will be spent on beneficial leasing of agricultural vehicles. The state support measures were changed to ensure effective utilization of beneficial loans and reduce corruption risks.

The minister said that more than 796,000 tons of meat were produced in Kazakhstan within 9 months of the current year which is 4.5% more against the last year. Milk production augmented by 4.2% and reached 2.8 million tons.

As part of implementation of the 2028 Comprehensive Plan of Processing, the ministry launches measures to increase the workload of enterprises and expand sales markets for home-produced goods. The ministry also plans to raise milk, meat, sunflower, rice, corn and buckwheat processing to 70%.

The President was also informed about the ministry’s plans for 2025. Next year, the ministry will focus on accelerated diversification of croplands to reduce water-intensive and single crops and increase the share of highly-profitable and priority crops.

Upon completion of the meeting, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev set a task to the ministry of further develop the country's agro-industrial complex and ensure food security.
