Merging of investigation services and criminal police must be in spotlight of MIA - President

ASTANA. January 17. KAZINFORM As earlier reported, Head of State Nursultan Nazarbayev participated today in the sitting of the board of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Following it the President charged the Ministry to give special attention to the implementation of the project on merging the investigation services and criminal police.

"To date we have set to reforming the Investigation Committee. Particular attention must be given to the implementation of a pilot project on merging the investigation services and criminal police in Almaty and Astana cities", N. Nazarbayev said.

In the context of further reform of the country's law-enforcement system, the President set a task to study and to develop constructive propositions on application of this scheme used in many countries of the world - the scheme of separation of the functions of the police and investigator.

"The major objective of the police must be search and arrest of a criminal, registration of the crimes. Further gathering of evidences and referral of a case to the court must be imposed on the investigators", N. Nazarbayev noted.
