MEP Struan Stevenson awarded “20th anniversary of Kazakhstan’s independence” medal

BRUSSELS. December 12. KAZINFORM /Dimash Syzdykov/ Kazakh Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Belgium and Luxembourg, Head of Kazakhstan's Mission to the EU and NATO Yerik Utembayev handed over jubilee medal "20th anniversary of independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan" to Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for Scotland Struan Stevenson. He made great contribution in raising international awareness of the terrible consequences of nuclear tests at the Semipalatinsk test site and attraction of private and international assistance to victims of such tests.
Presenting the jubilee medal to S.Stevenson on behalf of President Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Kazakh Ambassador congratulated the MEP on this honorary award and wished success in the political career. Besides, Y.Utembayev assured the MEP of Kazakhstan's support of his anti-nuclear activities.
S.Stevenson, in his turn, thanked Kazakhstan's leadership for high estimation of his public activity and noted that over 20 years of independence "Kazakhstan became not only a center of culture, social well-being and economic development of the whole Central Asian region, but a model of stable and progressive development of the democratic society."
