Meeting with Xi Jinping was a big surprise - NU students

"The meeting with the Chinese leader left a lasting impression. In his speech, the Chinese President stressed the relevance of reviving the Great Silk Road for the benefit of Kazakhstan and China's interests. We discussed this idea a lot with our Chinese peers and officials. Everyone seems to be fascinated by the idea," Akerke Abdirakhman, the third-year student of Nazarbayev University, says.

In her words, members of the Kazakhstani delegation had a warm reception everywhere they went in China. "From day one, we had a feeling we are a part of something special. The entire trip was perfectly planned," she adds.

"We were pleasantly surprised by reception. Everything passed in a friendly atmosphere. The most memorable part of the trip was, of course, the meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping. I am sure that kind of meetings positively affect humanitarian, economic and political cooperation between our countries," third-year student of Nazarbayev University Alexander Dzhaguparov notes.

According to the students, the meeting itself was a big surprise for them. They were told they were going to meet the President of China only upon their arrival to the country.

As reported earlier, Xi Jinping invited 200 students and professors of Nazarbayev University to visit Chinese summer camps. During their two-week stay in the country, NU students and professors also visited the Chinese cities of Urumqi, Shanghai, Beijing and Xian from 16 till 30 June, 2014.
