Measles cases predicted to peak among children in Astana

Measles cases among children are predicted to peak in 2023/24 in the Kazakh capital, chief health officer of Astana Sarkhat Beissenova said, Kazinform Agency correspondent reports.

According to her, 359 measles cases or 78% have been recorded in unvaccinated children and 79 or 17% among adults whose vaccination status was unknown. 20 children or 5% who got vaccination have contracted measles.

She went on to say that 246 or 67.5% of the cases have been reported in kids not attending school.

An analysis of the long-term data demonstrates that in the past 29 years, measles cases pecked in 1998, 2005, 2015, 2019 in the Kazakh capital, with the cyclicity period reduced from 10 to four. The last peak was seen in 2019, and the next is predicted in 2023-2024 as measles cases have kept rising from March this year.

Earlier it was reported that North Kazakhstan had detected 323 COVID cases since January this year.
