Maternal, child health dramatically improves in Kazakhstan - John Ordway

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - Successful cooperation between USAID and Kazakhstan's Healthcare Ministry helped Kazakhstan make great strides in the sphere of healthcare, Chargé d'Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Astana John Ordway told a Friday press conference dedicated to the USAID Quality Health Care Project in Kazakhstan.
Ambassador Ordway praised high skills of Kazakhstani specialists who had worked on the project. According to him, situation in the sphere of maternal and child health in Kazakhstan has dramatically improved. "I am sure the end of this project does not mean the end of cooperation with Kazakhstan," Ambassador Ordway stressed. USAID's Regional Director to Central Asia Jonathan Addleton noted that since 2004 the number of maternal deaths in Kazakhstan had dropped by 65%. "As for infant mortality, it has decreased by 60% over the past 5 years," he added.
