DHAKA. June 8. KAZINFORM At least 12 people have died and many more are missing after a packed ferry capsized in storms in north-east Bangladesh, officials say; Kazinform refers to BBC News.
The ferry was carrying dozens of passengers including many school children, authorities said.
The accident took place in Sunamganj district, about 140km (85 miles) north of the capital, Dhaka.
More than two dozen people are reported to have been rescued or to have swum to safety. Many more are unaccounted for.
Ferry accidents are fairly common on Bangladesh's vast river network.
Last November, 118 people were killed in two ferry accidents in Bangladesh within a week; Kazinform cites BBC News. See www.news.bbc.co.uk for full version.
