Malaysia, Kazakhstan to tap potential for more cooperation

KUALA LUMPUR. April 19. KAZINFORM The leaders of Malaysia and Kazakhstan said here Wednesday that the two countries are looking at some key areas to boost bilateral trade and cooperation.

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak told reporters after meeting with the visiting Kazakhstan President Nusultan Nazarbayev that the two leaders have identified specific opportunities and greater collaborations, such as oil and gas, infrastructure, information technology, financial services, education and tourism.

The total trade between Malaysia and Kazakhstan stood at 61.1 million U.S. dollars in 2011, and Najib said there is immense potential between the two countries, Xinhua reports.

Nazarbayev, who is on his third state visit to Malaysia in 16 years, said the building of industrial facilities in his country will offer good opportunities to Malaysian companies.

He said Kazakhstan is ready to accept Malaysian students to further their studies, and has agreed to continue exchanging specialists in the academic area between the two countries.
