He was born in Atyrausky Region; he attended Zhangir Khan?s School where he studied mathematics, culture of the East, Russian and Arabian languages and Islam fundamentals. The graduates of this school then went to prestigious higher educational institutions of Russia and far abroad. Eight students, who have left Zhangir School, have been awarded abuse to be enlisted in Nepljuevsky military school in Orenburg. In 1852 after returning to Bokeevsky Khanate Makash he became the translator of the Temporary Council, and some time later he became Akim (Mayor) of two near-Caspian districts. Sultan Makash has finished his career in a rank of captain-colonel and at the post of adviser to the Temporary Council. He was awarded with several orders as: St. Stanislaw of the second degree for care of people well-being, St. Anna and St. Vladimir awards of the third degree. There exist several evidences about his friendship with great Kurmangazy. Makash highly appreciated talent of the last one and always protected him from injustice. Makash Bekmuhambetov was a many-sided man; he was a historian, folklore specialist and ethnographer. Some of his works were published after his death: his book Dobry Sovet (Good Advice) was published in 1908; another his work About Kazakh and Kalmyk Nomads of Astrakhan Provinces was published in Astrakhan in 1910, and others.
