Major sporting events for Kazakhstan in 2024

The Ministry of Culture and Sport unveiled what important sport events Kazakhstan will host and what events the Kazakh athletes will participate in 2024, Kazinform News Agency reports.

Thus, 42 Kazakh athletes will compete in five sports (10 disciplines) at the 2024 Youth Olympic Games slated for January 19 – February 1 in Gangwon, South Korea

The main event of the year is the XXXIII Olympic Summer Games to be held from July 26 to august 11 in Paris, France. More than 10,000 athletes from 205 countries of the world will compete for 329 sets of medals in 32 sports.

The national team members will compete in 20 sports, with 17 berths already secured in eight disciplines: archery, biking, shooting, modern pentathlon, Greco-Roman wrestling, freestyle wrestling, artistic gymnastics and boxing. The athletes may win additional 2024 Olympic Games licenses at approximately 90 scheduled competitions.

The organization of the V World Nomad Games in Astana from September 8 to 14 will become a historical event for Kazakhstan. Delegations from more than 100 countries are expected to participate in it. The programme includes 20 competitions in 10 sports including sport on horseback, national wrestling, archery, falconry, and traditional intellectual games. The team’s roster is being set up, and training is underway.

In 2024, the Kazakh capital will host the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. This was announced at the official meeting of the International Boxing Federation in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. As the President of the IBA said, the total cash prize of the tournament is $4.8 million, with $200,000 to be paid for the first place.

In November, Astana will host the World Sambo Championships. Last autumn, the national team ranked 3rd with 1 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze medals at the 48th World Sambo Championships in Yerevan.
