Majilismen received European Parliament deputy

ANA. September 21. KAZINFORM. Deputy of the European Parliament Struan Stevenson has visited the Majilis of the Kazakhstan Parliament today. Vice Speaker Sergey Dyachenko and Chairman of the Committee for Ecology and Nature Management Yerlan Nigmatulin received him; Kazinform refers to the House's press service.

The sides discussed the issues on interparliamentary cooperation, particularly within the framework of the Commission "Kazakhstan - European Union". The adoption of Path to Europe state program by Kazakhstan and holding of the scientific conference "Modern Kazakhstan and 'Path to Europe" in the Majilis in May 2009 were called very important activities. Special attention was paid to the preparation of Kazakhstan for the OSCE chairmanship.

The issues of prevention and mitigation of consequences of manmade disasters were considered as well. The European deputy asked the Majilis to render support in drawing up the report on solution of the problems connected with the Semipalatinsk test site, the Aral Sea, desertification and others.

The parties expressed readiness to expand further cooperation.
