Majilis Speaker, U.S. Ambassador discuss interparliamentary cooperation
The parties exchanged opinions on the topical issues of Kazakh-U.S. cooperation, particularly in the field security. Nigmatulin emphasized the significance of the Kazakh President's initiatives on nuclear security and adoption of the World Declaration for a Nuclear-Free World. He expressed confidence that the initiatives of Nursultan Nazarbayev would be developed, including during the second summit on nuclear security in March 2012 in Seoul.
Nigmatulin and Fairfax stressed that they attach much importance to developing relations between the Parliament of Kazakhstan and the U.S. Congress. Since 2008 the Club "Friends of Kazakhstan" has been functioning in the U.S. Congress. The new Majilis has already formed a group to cooperate with the United States, which consists of 26 MPs. The Speaker assured that the legislative activity of the Majilis would be aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
