Majilis ratifies agreement on security in the Caspian Sea

ASTANA. KAZINFORM - At a plenary session Majilis, lower chamber of the Kazakh Parliament, has approved the draft Law "On ratification of the Agreement on security cooperation in the Caspian Sea region" today.

According to deputy chairman of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee Nurlan Zholamanov, the document envisages the following areas of cooperation: ensuring safety of navigation, fight on terrorism, organized crime, smuggling, illicit arms and drugs trafficking, proceeds laundering, human trafficking and illegal migration, and poaching. The parties are to appoint competent authorities to implement the agreement. The agreement was inked by heads of the Caspian states - Kazakhstan, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia and Turkmenistan on November 18, 2010.
