Majilis approved ratification of Additional Protocol to Geneva Conventions

ASTANA. January, 8. KAZINFORM /Muratbek Makulbekov/ The Majilis of KZ Parliament approved the draft law ?On ratification of Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions of August, 12, 1949 relating to the adoption of additional distinctive emblem – ? Red Crystal?, Kazinform correspondent reports.

Additional Protocol to Geneva Conventions of August, 12, 1949 on adoption of additional distinctive emblem was signed in Geneva on December, 8, 2005. The document confirms an additional distinctive emblem ?Red Crystal?. The possibility to use this emblem will facilitate the recognition and membership in the international movement of Red Cross and Red Crescent for national societies which do not wish to use the emblem of the Red Cross and Red Crescent as a distinguishing mark.
The Protocol reaffirms and supplements the provisions of the four Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and the two Additional Protocols of 8 June 1977 relating to the distinctive emblems, namely: the Red Cross, Red Crescent, Red lion and Sun.
