SAN DIEGO. April 12. KAZINFORM. A cluster of moderate earthquakes near the US-Mexico border has rattled parts of southern California as a swarm of seismic activity continues one week after a magnitude-7.2 quake slammed the area; Kazinform refers to China Daily.
The US Geological Survey says a magnitude-4.4 earthquake struck at 9:42 am EDT (1342 GMT) Sunday about 11 miles (18 kilometers) west of downtown Calexico.
More than two dozen other quakes in the magnitude-3 range were also reported in the same area Sunday.
No damage or injuries have been reported.
Scientists say the increased seismic activity is normal following the magnitude-7.2 earthquake last Sunday. Officials say the Easter quake killed two people and caused an estimated $100 million in damage in California alone; Kazinform cites China Daily.
