M6.3 quake hits China’s Qinghai, leaving one dead and four injured

As of 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, one person was confirmed dead, and four others were injured following a magnitude-6.3 earthquake that struck Haixi Mongolian and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China’s Qinghai Province, Qazinform News Agency reports, citing CGTN.

The earthquake occurred at 5:06 p.m., at a depth of 10 km, with its epicenter located at 37.80°N latitude and 95.56°E longitude, as reported by the China Earthquake Networks Center.

The Qinghai provincial seismological bureau sent an on-site team to the affected area to support local authorities with emergency response efforts.

At 6:10 p.m., the provincial emergency management bureau issued a Level II provincial emergency response for earthquake disasters.

Authorities have initiated a coordinated emergency supply support system that includes government agencies and social organizations to aid relief efforts and meet the basic living needs of residents affected.

In response to the earthquake, the National Commission for Disaster Prevention, Reduction and Relief, the Ministry of Emergency Management, and the National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration jointly allocated 10,000 disaster-relief supplies to Qinghai Province on Tuesday. These supplies included tents, folding beds, quilts, blankets, family emergency kits, and emergency lighting equipment.

Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that a magnitude 7.8 earthquake hit off the southern coast of Mindanao, Philippines, causing at least 45 deaths, 17 missing persons, and 487 injuries.
