Landslides in southwest China’s Yunnan leave 2 dead, 4 missing
Two people were found dead and four remain missing after rain-triggered landslides struck southwest China's Yunnan Province, local authorities said Sunday, Xinhua reports.
Between 1 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Sunday, sustained downpours lashed Fengshan Township in Yunnan. The rains left a total of six people unaccounted for, of whom two were found dead and four remain missing.
Rescue teams were dispatched to carry out search and rescue operations, relocate affected residents, and monitor weather and geological risks. All-out search and rescue efforts are underway.
Earlier, Qazinform News Agency reported that a major earthquake struck Ibaraki Prefecture early Sunday morning, shaking eastern Japan, including Tokyo, and leaving at least 37 people injured.
