Landlocked Kazakhstan interested in Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway speedy construction

BAKU. December 12. KAZINFORM Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan Amangeldy Zhumabayev said at a press conference in Baku, Kazakhstan is interested in the construction of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway.

During the press conference, the Azerbaijani public was debriefed on Kazakhstan's achievements in the sphere of economy, domestic and foreign policy as well as priorities of the bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

"Kazakhstan is interested in transporting its goods via Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway which is under construction at the moment," the Kazakh envoy told the press conference.

In his worlds, Kazakhstan oil&gas and grain may be carried by this railway line. The Caucasus corridor is of paramount importance for Kazakhstan," Ambassador Zhumabayev added.

"In addition, trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan has totaled nearly $210 million in nine months of 2013. This volume does not correspond to the potential of the two countries and should be increased," the Kazakh diplomat noted.

Kazakhstan's principal exports to Azerbaijan are mineral resources (oil&gas), chemical raw materials, grain, barley, tobacco products and electrical equipment. Azerbaijan imports to Kazakhstan oil products made of bituminous materials, ethylene polymers and components for machinery and mechanisms.
