KZT 29 bln for repair and reconstruction of auto roads under 2010 Road Map - Ministry of Transport

ASTANA. January 13. KAZINFORM /Rasul Bakhamov/ Western Europe-Western China mega-project has been in spotlight both of the Kazakh Government and foreign investors. Today January 13 the Ministry of Transport and Communications has held a conference on this project and the challenges to be solved within its realization. The conference brought together akims of six regions of the country, suppliers of road-construction materials, auto- and railroad carriers and representatives of contracting organizations and technical inspection services.

As is known, out of 8, 445 km of the project 2, 787 km run through the territory of Kazakhstan which has just set to its implementation. 37 seven sections of the road have already been determined, 33 of them will be financed by foreign investors. At present there is no problem with foreign loans however the officials stress the problem with allotting the lands for construction, timely supply of road-construction materials and contractors' good work.

As Minister A. Kussainov noted, construction of Western Europe-Western China international corridor would allow establishing a transport corridor as well as raising the country's potential threefold. "The project will also give a new impulse to the development of the five regions through which the corridor will pass", he added.

The participants discussed the issues of organization of work and coordination of materials supply and solution of the current problems (lack of personnel, coordination of schedules of work etc.)

Stressing the importance of the project for Kazakhstan as well as for partner countries the Minister urged the conference participants to keep realization of the Road Map program in focus. In this sphere the program provides for repair and restoration of 2, 105 km of roads in 2010. KZT 29.1 bln is envisaged for this aim.
