Korea suspends defense exchanges with Japan amid territorial row

SEOUL. September 3. KAZINFORM A South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman suggested Monday that South Korea is suspending defense exchanges with Japan, apparently due to a territorial dispute that has heightened diplomatic tensions.
The spokesman told reporters at a regular press briefing that a visit to Japan by a South Korean naval commander in charge of education, which had been scheduled to take place Monday as part of bilateral defense exchanges, has been postponed "taking into account the current situation."
Defense Ministry sources said South Korea has given the same reason for postponing a four-day visit to Japan by a South Korean air force commander, which was also scheduled to start Monday, Kyodo reports.
