Koksarai Counter Regulator to start accumulating water from Syrdarya Feb 1
"The pace of construction is unprecedented. The task set by the President seemed to be difficult, but we managed to realize it through joint efforts. Undoubtedly we will collect a cubic kilometer of floodwaters", Mr. Bozhko noted.
Accumulating one cubic kilometer of water from Syrdarya by means of two special channels is the task of the first stage of the construction.
The construction of the Koksarai Counter Regulator on the territory of Arys municipality started in summer 2008. It was planned to finish all works by 2012. However, as Mr. Bozhko informed, the water reservoir would be ready next winter.
The Koksarai Counter Regulator is a temporary water reservoir for accumulation of winter and early spring floods. It will help reduce the likelihood of flooding in settlements and farmlands.
KZT 21 billion was invested in the project in 2009. The funds were fully utilized. KZT 15 billion will be allocated this year to continue construction of the counter regulator.
