Koksarai counter regulator accumulates about 3.0 cubic meters of water

ASTANA. January 19. KAZINFORM The Koksarai counter regulator on Syrdaria River in South Kazakhstan region was put into operation in 2011. It has already proved its efficiency during the flood period preventing the flooding of the territory of south Kazakhstan;p according to the Kazakh Prime Minister's website http://pm.kz

This project was implemented by the Government of Karim Massimov on the instruction of the president within the State Program of Forced Industrial-Innovative Development of Kazakhstan.

The Koksarai counter regulator is designed to protect 69 villages of South Kazakhstan and Kyzylorda regions from floods and keep water for fulfillment of Aral Sea and wetting agricultural lands.

The first results were achieved in 2010 when the first stage of construction of the counter regulator was finished. Over 1 billion cubic meters of winter flow have been accumulated since February 10, 2010. This allowed to ensure flood safety in the region.

The construction of Koksarai counter regulator was completed in December 2011. Currently, the counter regulator accumulates about 3.0 cubic meters of water. The flume is 16 km long and has the capacity of 500 cubic meters per second.

It is worth noting that 150 specialized organizations, about 7500 people over 3000 units of specialized machineries were involved in the construction of the counter regulator.
