Kazakhstan’s Shakirbekov wins third Asian Pankration title
Abilay Shakirbekov, a National Guard athlete from Kazakhstan's Burkit Team, claimed gold at the Asian Championships for Amateur MMA and Pankration in Da Nang, Vietnam, Qazinform News Agency reports.
The athlete became the champion in the 93 kg weight class. The victory marked his third Asian Pankration title.
Upon returning to Kazakhstan, Shakirbekov was met at Astana airport by National Guard officials, coaches, family, and friends.
"Our guardsmen's achievements at international competitions boost the country's sporting image and set a strong example for young people," the National Guard press service said.
As Qazinform News Agency previously reported, Kazakhstan's youth team (under 17) finished first in the overall team standings at the tournament.
