Last year, Kazakhstan saw an absolute emission reduction of just 1% due to economic growth and implementation of projects as part of the country’s efforts to encourage investments. However, the country’s category-1 facilities or 50 major industrial enterprises reduced their carbon footprint by 6%, said Aliyev.

According to him, Kazakhstan eyes cutting emissions with adoption of comprehensive environmental solutions using the best technologies available. The country’s 28 out of the 50 major enterprises will be double charged on emissions, discharge, waste disposal and placement of sulfur in the open starting from this year.

Vice Minister Aliyev also said that the country’s 19 roadmaps for integrated solutions to environmental issues facing the regions provide for 600 measures, of which 454 have already been implemented and 146 are yet to be realized.
