Kazakhstan's IFAS chairmanship: 1st year results reviewed in Astana
On January 6, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Yermukhambet Konuspayev has met the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), Askhat Orazbay, Kazinform News Agency learned from the Kazakh Foreign Ministry.
The sides discussed the results of the first year of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Organization, the Executive Committee’s work and the pressing issues of the Organization's agenda.
The sides highlighted the importance of regulation of water management, water energy and environmental aspects of regional development of the Aral Sea basin countries.
The parties agreed to make every effort to facilitate the process of improvement of the Organization, as well as to actively interact in tackling the tasks and instructions set following the meeting of the Council of Heads of State – Founders of the IFAS in Dushanbe in September 2023.
In turn, the Chairman of the Executive Committee, informed the Kazakh side about the progress of promoting the priorities of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship, the implementation of regional environmental projects and programs, as well as the expansion of IFAS’ international relations.
Earlier, Kazinform reported that the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Azerbaijan and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea held a side-event on “Central Asia on the path to improving the efficiency of transboundary water resource management in the Aral Sea basin, with the consideration of climate impact,” as part of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) in Baku. The goal of the event was to enhance and expand the partnership between the IFAS founding countries and the international development partners.
Kazakhstan took over a three-year presidency in the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea in January 2024
