Kazakhstan's Human Rights Commission gets new lineup

The President of Kazakhstan has signed a decree amending the 2003 decree "On the Human Rights Commission under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan," Qazinform News Agency reports, citing the Akorda press service.

The composition of the Human Rights Commission under the President of Kazakhstan has been approved in a new version, as outlined in the annex to the decree.

The decree took effect on the day of its signing – May 8, 2026.

According to the annex, the renewed Human Rights Commission is chaired by Zhakip Assanov, Deputy Speaker of the Senate. Aidyn Bikebayev, a lawyer, member of the National Bar Association, and Ainur Sabitova, Director of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute, have been appointed as deputy chairs.
