A native of the city of Almaty Olesya Abu Hasun, born in 1975, lived in the Syrian city Sveyda. As stated by her, she was hoping for the situation to normalize in Syria, but the ongoing fighting and the threat to life and security forced her to make a decision to leave the country and return to her homeland - Kazakhstan.

As said by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan Bulat Sarsenbayev, who is currently in Beirut, in Syria there are about forty citizens of Kazakhstan, who Kazakhstani diplomats are aware of. It is possible that the number of our citizens may be more due to the fact that these are people who have not been registered in the consulate and their stay in the territory of the Arab country was not previously known.

Issues concerning evacuation of Kazakh citizens from the hotspots and their return to their homeland is constantly monitored by the diplomatic missions of Kazakhstan under the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. It should be noted that tickets for Kazakh citizens to return home are purchased through a special government budget program.
